CBD For Elephants (Yes, Really)

30 September 2020

The lady in the photo here is Fredzia, and she lives at Warsaw Zoo. As we know, elephants feel grief and Fredzia has seemed listless and distressed since the matriarch of the herd, Erna, died earlier this year.

Dr Agnieszka Czujkowska, who leads the zoo’s Animal Rehabilitation department said, “Elephants experience behavioural problems when the structure of a group changes,” and she decided to try treating Fredzia with CBD. A sample of her cortisol was taken - the hormone produced in the bodies of both humans and animals in stressful situations – and Dr Agnieszka will add CBD to Fredzia’s food and take a reading of her cortisol level again in a few weeks time.

It’ll be interesting to see how she gets on, and in the meantime we wish her very well.
