THE BUMBLEBEE CONSERVATION TRUST
Bees of all species do so much good for the environment that it’s important to us that what we do also generates a benefit for their own habitats and so we’ve teamed up with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, an independent UK charity that relies on the generous support of the public.
Bumblebees are the big furry bees you can see and hear buzzing from flower to flower. They collect food from the flowers and bring it back to the nest to feed to the queen bee and young bees. They don’t make enough honey for us to eat, but by visiting the flowers they allow the flowers to make lots of yummy things for us to eat. If we didn’t have bees, there would be no strawberries, raspberries, peas, beans, tomatoes (no tomato ketchup or soup!), apples, pears or cherries! So next time you see a bumblebee, be sure to thank it for all the hard work it’s doing for us.
But it’s not all about the eating!
Sadly, our bumblebees are in trouble because they don’t have enough food to eat as many of the flowers they feed upon have disappeared. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust is trying to put more flowers back into our gardens and countryside by working with farmers, gardeners, communities and schools to help them feed the bees.
