We mentioned a few days ago that the Lethbridge University in Alberta, Canada, is reporting positive results in the possible use of CBD to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 virus. We come back to this very cautiously; research is at an early stage of course, but the university is now receiving funding from the Canadian government to further the work.
They are working to develop easy-to-use preventative treatments with the “potential to decrease viral entry” through the mouth, as The New York Post reports. As they say, “[there are indications that] hemp extracts high in CBD may help block proteins that provide a gateway for COVID-19 to enter host cells”. The tests are building on CBD’s acknowledged anti-inflammatory properties.
Igor Kovalchuk, who is leading the research team, said that the reduction in invasion was around 70%. CBD, he said, “may prove a plausible strategy for decreasing disease susceptibility, and become a useful and safe addition to the treatment of COVID-19 as an adjunct therapy.”
The CBD being used, was – like the CBD infused into Haughton Honey – almost completely free of the hallucinatory element THC (less than 3%).
In these difficult times it is of course well worth following up just about any lead and we are watching these results keenly. In the meantime we do, of course, recommend that you take Haughton Honey infused with CBD: not only is the CBD so good for you, but the yummy taste might well clear up your lock-down blues.
